About Dr Nicholas McLeod

Dr Nicholas McLeod is a consultant urologist in Newcastle, and provides treatment in both the public and private hospital system. He has specialist training in all aspects of urology including surgical conditions of the kidney, prostate, bladder, adrenal and male reproductive organs. He has particular expertise in laparoscopic, laser, and robotic surgery.

Nicholas studied medicine at the University of Newcastle, graduating with Honours. After receiving training in general surgery through Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney, he completed advanced urological training in New South Wales. As the senior urology registrar at Westmead Hospital he received the George Schnitzler Prize for the NSW Urology Registrar of the Year. He then travelled to Manchester, United Kingdom, for international Fellowship training in the minimally invasive (keyhole) treatment of urological cancers. Nicholas has an interest in da Vinci robotic surgery for the treatment of prostate cancer.

He is a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, and a member of the Urological Society of Australia and New Zealand. Nicholas is committed to teaching, and acted as the lead training supervisor for advanced urology trainees at the John Hunter Hospital between 2014 and 2022. He has an active role in teaching medical students from the University of Newcastle, and has a keen interest in research.
